Eating Insects Athens was [insert superlatives here] beautiful. I’ll be writing much more on the pride I feel for our community - that we’ve seen so much growth since our inaugural conference in Detroit in 2016. On the importance of the work these companies are doing to promote sustainability, health, and mindful approaches to work in general. On the love and acceptance that was omnipresent in each conversation, meeting, or dance party. I am overwhelmed with this group of people that have transcended the definition of business peers and felt much more like true friends and family. Thank you to everyone who participated, and to those of you that couldn’t make it but have been a part of my bug family still. I’ve never been more certain that this is the mission and these are the people that I want to dedicate my life to helping.
There are exquisite but all too rare moments when we are truly creative, happy, and intuitively know exactly what is needed - perhaps even glimpse our true nature. Some call this experience ‘flow.’ Most of us have experienced a state of ‘flow’ - of being ‘in the zone.’ A sense of total freedom, confidence, rightness… a euphoria where you almost feel less connected to yourself and more connected to something greater.
Our bug family has put me into a mindset that I love, and I will always be grateful. I want to lead a life of intent, where the core of what I do helps others, while still encouraging me to practice self care. I’ve found a home for this dream. A lot of the people I work with are wrapped up in this idea of success. One of my guiding quotes has been, “Think about the metric by which your life will be judged, and make a resolution to live every day so that in the end, your life will be judged a success” (Clayton M. Christensen.) I’ve been fortunate enough to find a community that aligns my heart and mind around ideals of ‘success.’ The next few years will be a test for our little industry as we break down barriers, dissolve stigmas, and educate. I’m more motivated than ever to continue this journey with a grin plastered across my face.

@amaze.vr creates virtual reality experiences that let us enter worlds that we never thought possible before. I'm thrilled to announce the project we worked on to bring a virtual wine & bug pairing to audiences across the world. You can experience the interactive video (with or without VR) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPrV6n0Umyk ... humbled to be included with their other crazy content like a journey to the summit of Mt. Everest! (A little late in posting this, but better late than never!!) The purpose of content like this is to build empathy and understanding across populations that might never have the courage or opportunity to experience these activities otherwise. Make sure to check out the other work by @amaze.vr! Huge thanks to @lisa_hom for her forever support and to @vwineroom for the beautiful location and expertise! 😍🍷🐜 (yummy bugs from @nextfoodedibleinsects@entomofarms@lithicfoods@chirpschips@mercimercado_us@micronutris & more!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPrV6n0Umyk
Alright - I'm obsessed with giant water bugs. I know they're a bit "much" to look at, but think of them like you would a shrimp or lobster. These are from @nextfoodedibleinsects and taste like sunflower seeds and looks great thanks to @ashleycorbinteich & @ellacalderon_ )💕⭐️🎀
