These arrived today... glad to have them and hate that we need them all at the same time. #allergyfree #allergybaby #somanyfoodallergies #foodallergy #eczemadiet #babyeczema #foodallergies #dairyfree #eggfree #freshpeachfree #tomatofree #chickpeafree #almondfree #sunflowerallergy #sunflowerfree #epipen #epipens
Yesterday was emotional... being taught how to use an epi pen (even though I knew the basics already) and being told “yup you are right let’s do a blood test but i don’t need one to tell me you are right about his allergies”. Was both scary and relieving at the same time. Little dude took two 2+ hr naps today recovering from the trauma of yesterday and I made plantain crusted chicken fingers with roasted potatoes for dinner. Served it with the peach BBQ sauce I made! It was a hit! Now a 2 week wait for the blood tests to come back... #allergybaby #allergyfree #allergyliving #tellmyhusbandtobuymeanairfryer #sunflowerallergy #dairyfreerecipes #babyeczema #eczemadiet #eggfree #tomatofree #chickpeafree #somanyfoodallergies #foodallergies #peanutallergy
When you’re an allergy parent and give your child a new snack that appears safe on the label.. can anyone relate to the timer? Having the Benadryl and epipens handy and staring at her for at least an hour but worrying all day 😪 she’s only 1 so she can’t tell me if something feels funny which makes it even more stressful . . . #foodallergies #foodallergyawareness #foodallergymom #momtofoodallergykid #kidswithfoodallergies #peanutallergy #treenutallergy #dairyallergy #eggallergy #sesameallergy #sunflowerallergy #lentilallergy #flaxallergy #chickpeaallergy #legumeallergy #seedallergy #nutallergy #soyallergy
All packed up and ready to head off to our very first appointment with an allergist! Happy to be headed down the right track towards an action plan for the known allergies and hopefully an idea of what he might be allergic to that he hasn’t encountered yet... #allergyfree #allergybaby #allergyliving #eczema #eczemakid #eczemababy #sunflowerallergy #tomatofree #dairyfree #eggfree #treenutfree #chickpeaallergy #freshpeachallergy 🤷🏼♀️
Baked falafel using the chickpeas I soaked yesterday! They’re not as brown as they would be if I fried them, but this is much healthier (3 tablespoons of oil spread out across all these rather than deep frying or even pan frying them) and didn’t require frying in the kitchen! #tellmyhusbandtobuymeanairfryer #iwantanairfryer #vegan #veganfood #meatlessmeals #allergyfree #eczemadiet #sunflowerallergy #babyeczema #dairyfreerecipes #eggfree #falafel #allergybaby #allergyliving #makeitmydamnself #freezingsomeforlater
With my #allergybaby I’ve started removing all processed foods from the family’s diet! That includes soaking chickpeas instead of using cans. This is my first attempt, but so far so good- stay tuned for the baked falafel happening tomorrow with these! #allergyfree #eczemadiet #sunflowerallergy #babyeczema #dairyfreerecipes #eggfree #notveganbutclose #notomatoes🍅 #nutfree #nosaltadded
Sausage Muffins! My little guy loves a savory breakfast but can’t have eggs so when I saw this recipe, I knew we had to try it! I used @daiyafoods cheddar shreds, @planetoat vanilla oat milk (unsweetened), sausage, a little flour and baking powder and BOOM successful breakfast! #eggfreebreakfast #eczemadiet #eggfree #nutfree #dairyfree #dairyfreerecipes #breakfast #sunflowerallergy #sunflowerfree #eczema #eczemakid #eczemababy
She was an awesome little helper yesterday morning. We spent a couple hours washing fruit, making pumpkin waffles, einkorn spinach pancakes, and breakfast, lunches, & dinners for the week. . . We never used to prep our food, but we found it took extra time taking out all the ingredients and making the kitchen messy every single day. Now we can easily grab and go and it makes it simpler. . . It’s fun giving her jobs to do and be a part of the process. She took all the grapes off the steams all by herself. She was so proud of that! 🙌🏻 . . Now we are ready for the week!
This is the result of “omg what am I going to feed my family tonight!?!?” When your committee meeting runs late and little man is starving, you throw a bunch of allergy friendly stuff in a pan with some seasoning and hope for the best! 🤣🤷🏼♀️ Hubby said it was good and baby ate it! #eattherainbow🌈 #excepttomatoes #sunflowerallergy #babyeczema #eczemadiet #dairyfreerecipes #nutfree #eggfree #fastmeals #eczemakid #allergybaby #allergyfree #allergyliving #allergylife #sunflowerfree
Mamas! This motherhood thing can be tough work. . . Maybe you’re a bit like me and strive to make her day great. And sometimes you scream and something that plan doesn’t happen as you thought. Or something you thought they would love is like the end of the world to them, which breaks your heart. . . Let’s take this weekend to be present. Let’s take those situations that don’t go as planned and be ok with whatever happens. Let’s start to learn to go with the flow more. Let’s give ourselves grace if we snap and own up to our mistakes to our kiddos. Show them we are trying our best & that we make mistakes too & at the end of the day, we still love them. Let’s find the joy is our days with our kiddos! . . 💖💖💖💖
When all your peaches ripen on the same day, you get to cooking! Peach cobbler, muffins, baked peaches (Since apparently my little guy can’t have them raw without hives...) and I’ve got a pork tenderloin in the slow cooker with the peach BBQ sauce I made yesterday. I’m exhausted and I still have 3 hrs til little guy goes to bed! Something they don’t tell you before you go egg free- baking egg free is amazing because you can totally taste the batter without anyone saying “stop there are raw eggs in that!!” 🤣🤷🏼♀️ @thepeachtruck they are amazing peaches!! #cookedfruit #babyeczema #dairyfreerecipes #eczemadiet #sunflowerallergy #nutfree #dairyfree #eggfree #eggfreebaking

Sweet Potato, black bean and chicken sausage quesadillas! Made with @daiyafoods shredded cheddar (keep your fingers crossed 🤞🏻🤞🏻we don’t have a coconut oil reaction!). About last night... Vegan Quiche! Made with chickpea flour, flax, a little nutritional yeast, grated cauliflower, zucchini, asparagus and spinach (and a little onion too). Turned out really good! Dinner tonight: Pasta with avocado sauce! I’ve never been a huge avocado fan, but I liked this sauce!!!I used @ancientharvest pasta made from corn, quinoa, beets and red bell peppers. The avocado sauce is just avocado, garlic, salt and pepper, and lemon juice (and some reserved pasta water). Doesn’t take the prettiest picture, but was yummy!!! #tomatofree #allergyfree #sunflowerallergy #nutfree #glutenfree #treenutfree #healthyeating #eczemafoods #avocado #glutenfreepasta #pasta #allergyliving #eczemadiet
See this poor red face? THIS is why I make it my own damn self now and why I read labels religiously. The redness and eczema breakout happened because the oatmilk I used in a biscuit and sausage gravy recipe had sunflower oil in it. 🤦🏼♀️ We were on Vacation and I used a different brand than the @planetoat that I usually use! @planetoat does NOT have sunflower oil in it and we❤️❤️❤️ it!!! #sunflowerallergy #allergyfree #healthyeating #eczema #familyfood #oatmilk
Thank you! My prayers were answered 🙏🏻 . . Like seriously, I have prayed over this pot of flowers that we planted 10 days ago. I prayed that they would sprout and promised to nurture them to the best we could. . . I don’t have a great track record for growing things, well except that cute kid 😉 and now she is so excited to check every morning to see the changes! She jumped for joy today because there are more sprouts! 🙃
I’ve been thinking a lot about the energy I expend doing things, as fatigue wasn’t something I ever fully registered on my radar before diagnosis. Sure, I get tired... but doesn’t everyone? Well, no actually... who knew 🤷🏼♀️. I spend at least one day of my weekend now pretty much doing nothing, like zero. Mainly sat on the sofa binge watching something! My working week tires me out so much that I need this one day just to sit and reset. This weekend that was yesterday and I woke up full of beans today, ready to blitz and clean my entire flat, with thoughts leading to a project I want to work on and dreaming of a run post-clean... however suddenly I’m tired again + my sciatic pain is playing up, likely from cleaning. I’m hoping a little sit down, some lunch and I’ll be back to attack - a run, my project and other normal things most people do with ease. On days with fatigue, what do you dream of accomplishing?
I’ve been eating so shit recently, a month back I started to re-introduce my food intolerances (mainly sunflower). Then fell down a slippery slope of not asking what things were cooked in at restaurants, not checking food packaging and blind ordering take out... speckled with “fuck it, I feel shit anyway I’m eating an *insert dairy here*”. I feel awful, my period or “period” (who knows what this bleeding existence is), has been awful and I look beyond tired (cos I feel it). Sadly, I think my intolerances are here to stay. So I’m raising a glass to the Full Moon tonight and hitting reset. Full moon affirmations ✨ I will let go of things not meant for me ✨ I will make a conscious effort to avoid foods I cannot eat, despite the inconvenience to me or to others ✨ I will not feel guilty for “incurring” endo belly, cramps, leg pain etc. ✨ I will diarise meditation & exercise like I would hanging out with a friend ✨ I will prioritise my longest relationship to date - ME! What’s your affirmations?
This weekend 4 years ago I was waddling around and decided I was going to paint a mural in the nursery #nesting 😂 . . It’s something that makes me wonder as she gets older and wants to change her room, if she will keep it. If not, it has brought me so much joy as she has grown up in her room. Maybe it will be time for a new mural that we can paint together 🤔 . . Either way; it’s fun looking back at memories before she was running around the house. 💜
Currently awaiting my second period post-lap, it’s a will it / won’t it show situation... thought I got it last night, turns out it was just some super casual spotting 🤷🏼♀️ Mirena is that you kicking in? Anyone else had the #mirenacoil fitted? What’s been your experience so far? Obviously I’m hoping it’s going to keep me period and (relatively) pain free 💅 (I know, I lol’d too) Pic via @power_period
Today we planted seeds to grow marigolds! It was fun answering all her questions & explaining how things grow! . . Let’s see how this goes! Now is the time for my #greenthumb to show up! That will be a harder story to explain if this pot stays dirt 😂😅
Seven weeks + 2 days, my stitches have finally fell out! 💃🏼 I had three pesky ones that were knotted outside my skin, and today two of them fell off! My scars on the whole are healing pretty nicely and I’m sure that in a few more months they’ll fade to nothing. After the surgery and the day I took off my dressings, I wanted to cry at how ugly they were! The skin looked so puckered and I was frightened it would stay that way! However the one I wanted to cry over was the quickest to heal and seems to have left the smaller mark of the three incisions. I’m sure in a few more months, they’ll fade to hardly nothing - never letting on the battle we all face with this invisible illness. How do your #laproscopy scars look? Lovely illustration by the fab @handsomegirldesigns, I’m rather taken with their designs 💞
NEW MOON DAY 🌙🌝🌚✨ Do you set your intentions for the month ahead around the new moon? It really helps me to reset and focus 🧘🏼♀️ Top of my list is getting back to exercise, I paused my membership post- #laproscopy and it’s activated again now. When did you start exercising again after laparoscopy and excision / ablation? Photo via @mypelvicpain, @endoawarenessbrisbane
FATIGUE 🌚✨ it’s been one of those days where I’m just SO tired! It’s been an exhausting week of setting up for an event, being at an all day event, then followed by a heavy pack down today. Each time I lift something heavy, I feel the muscle fatigue in my ovary... like literally my ovaries are lifting weights 🏋🏼♀️ unsure if this is still recovery (almost 7 weeks post-lap), or if this is my new normal? Unsure where I am in my cycle as in the past 7 weeks I’ve had roughly 5 days non-bleeding 🤷🏼♀️, so can’t even attribute to period or ovulation etc. Ugh, when did you feel normal post- #laparoscopy / post #endoexcision ? Posting this pic as all day I’ve fantasised about getting a blow out so I don’t have to wash my own hair, tired. 😴💁🏼♀️
I’m going crazy. To say our toddler has been difficult the past two days would be putting it lightly. . . Reading about decluttering the home & how it can help kids chill out... inspired me to declutter her room for a third time. I did it in June & November last year and it’s time again. . . So I will pick up and decide what things to keep out, throw away, donate, or put in a box to cycle through in a month or so. It will ease my mind for sure & hopefully hers too! 🤞🏻 . . Do you clean your kid(s) room?
😱T minus 1 day until I go dairy- and wheat-free for the @top10challenge, and I admit I'm nervous I may go hungry, lol. I wasn't able to find a gluten-free bread/cereal alternative that was also safe for my son, so it looks like I'll be eating a bowl of mixed fruit with a sprinkling of tree nuts for breakfast tomorrow. 🍓🍇🍌 For lunch, I had grandiose dreams of making an avocado blt pasta salad by @allergy_awesomeness, but when you're planning for a move abroad + freelancin' your heart out (yay new clients!), making a meal from scratch just ain't gonna happen. 😰 Enter my favourite back-up plan, the healthiest of lazy dinners: The World's Best Veggie Burger, by @hilaryseatwell (scroll right x 2 for their new look, which is not what I currently have in my freezer). And looks like dinner's going to be an egg-free chicken-fried rice with Coconut Aminos (because soy sauce has gluten in it, right?!). Phew, I won't starve. 👍 Okay, I'm ready for this. Send good vibes my way, friends! . 💙 Want to help me reach my personal fundraising goal? You can do so here: bit.ly/team-jake I'm currently just $150 away, and Top 10 Challenge is a little over $5,000 away from creating a $25,000 allergy research grant (a goal we thought would take us 3 years to reach). Still preparing for my #dayontheplate via the @top10challenge this Tuesday. I'll be eating all 3 meals minus🍦 and 🍞 IN ADDITION to our existing allergens (peanuts, egg, sesame and sunflower). I have to admit it's been tough, but I think I finally have my dairy-free, wheat-free #mealpan figured out. I stumbled upon this #oatmilk and #cashewmilk from @sofreshmilk and decided to do a taste test this evening. Can you guess which one tasted better (in my humble opinion)? Also, swipe right. I actually checked the ingredients to see if our WHEAT bran contained wheat. #duhme 😜 It's super challenging to go without these new allergens and I'm reminded of what life felt like right after our son's diagnosis. #overwhelming #stressful #notfun The good news? It gets better!! ❤ . 💙 Want to sponsor me? ☕Thanks to this #coconutcreamer from @coconut.cloud, I'm getting some practice in for the @top10challenge. In addition to the allergens we already avoid (peanuts, egg, sesame, sunflower), we'll be cutting dairy and wheat out of our diet for one full day at the end of this month (to raise allergy awareness & funds towards allergy research). Currently staying with my parents outside of Toronto while the Irish hubby 'sets up shop' in our soon-to-be new home. 🍀 It's amazing how challenging it can be to meal plan when you're not in your own kitchen and are not familiar with the surrounding grocery stores. #addedstress 😬😬 Any ideas for wheat-free, dairy-free meals? I'm having a hard time imagining breakfast without my favourite plain yogourt, creamy coffee, bagels, toast, oatmeal... AAAH! Suggestions pleeeeease! 🙏🙏 #imnotbegging #okayiam . 💙 Want to sponsor me? Motherhood has been on my mind a lot lately as prepare to host a call with other moms & moms-to-be friends this Saturday. Hard to believe this picture was 4 years ago..... I remember looking down at that belly and just wondering all these questions... If you are a mom or a mom-to-be and are looking for a safe place to ask questions and hear other moms share their stories, comment below & I’ll send you the info. 💜
Motherhood is the most challenging experience of my life. 😳 . . I resisted being a mom for so long. I denied it. No way was something going to take up my resources for 9 months & then magically pop out. I tried to convince myself I could never be a mom. But, God had a different plan. . . How could someone who’s middle name is Stress, be a mom? Who is a perfectionist? Who is an introvert? Who is figuring out who she is? Who needs her sleep? How could she ever be a mom? . . But I am. I am a mom. And I can choose to be all those things that I thought defined me. But I choose to believe God has a plan for me. He has brought me to this and wouldn’t leave me hanging. . . ☀️Being a mom has helped me recognize stress, triggers, and coping mechanisms. I’m not perfect, but I’m way less stressed than I used to be. ☀️Being a mom has taught me I don’t need to be perfect. I’m part of the Recovering Perfectionist Club now. 😆 ☀️Being a mom has taught me that I need to create my own time & space to recharge my batteries. ☀️Being a mom forced me to find what really makes me happy. What pulls me out of bed. ☀️Being a mom showed me that I could function on natural mommy instincts, even with 24+ hours of no sleep. . . Motherhood has been the biggest, most challenging part of my life yet. It has made me cry, yell, laugh, smile, scream, love....it has made me look deeper at myself than ever before. It continues to transform me & push me to my limits.
ENDOMETRIOSIS is more than just a bad period... My symptoms were inconsistent and weren’t always linked directly to my period but they were cyclical. ⚪️Excruciatingly painful periods ⚫️Vomiting ⚪️Painful sex ⚫️Bleeding after sex ⚪️Cystitis ⚫️Pain on going to the loo ⚪️Sciatica ⚫️Ovarian cysts ⚪️Ovarian pain (ranging from twisting to the feeling of being ripped out) ⚫️Pelvic pain ⚪️Bloating The list goes on, I was sent for endless smear tests, vaginal ultrasounds and STI tests. No one uttered the word “endometriosis” to me. It was only upon me researching my symptoms and a hunch it was to do with my cycle that I stumbled across endo and asked to be referred. I was put on the longest wait list after a specialist gyny doctor saw me and said “I wasn’t in enough pain during my internal”... the internal I then bled for two weeks after from, he also referred to endo as “just a bad period” (he was very very knowledgeable; sarcasm). A year to the date I asked to be referred I woke up from my laparoscopy with a diagnosis; my pre-assessment with the surgeon that morning was the first time I was believed. And by the afternoon it was confirmed. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, or others... I urge you to persist beyond not being “believed”. You know yourself and your body better than any medical practitioner. 💛💛💛
Time to reset 🧘🏼♀️ Those with chronic illness can get so frustrated with all that they are doing - yoga, swapping out foods, cutting out dairy, gluten, sugar, not drinking alcohol... the list goes on. And yet, sometimes nothing works, the flare up still happens! That’s because chronic illness is a BITCH and refuses to be controlled. So whilst the above can help with inflammation elsewhere in our bodies and lessen that particular inflammation’s impact on our chronic condition, it is not a cure. And just knowing that sometimes is enough to forgive yourself for the cheese* (or insert inflammatory item here) you may have eaten last weekend. 😇 Happy Easter weekend loves 💞
thankful he asked me to prom && got me fake sunflowers! #sunflowerallergy 💛🌻🤩
Today marks five weeks since my laparoscopy, and it’s been the first few days where I’ve not been crippled (at some point in the day) by pain. However, it seems depression has replaced my painful spell, it takes me by surprise most evenings and I feel utterly hopeless and miserable about my life. Taking this long weekend to reset, be mindful and hopefully put the D demon to bed. 🧘🏼♀️This too shall pass 💞✨
Waking up from my first laparoscopy, I felt so relieved and validated to be diagnosed, however fast forward a few weeks and I don’t know how I feel. Confused, in pain and sad (only slightly covers it)... is this my life now? When you wait for a lap all you can think about is whether you’ll get the diagnosis you’ve been waiting for. No one tells you that if you do, the relief will eventually subside and be replaced with sorrow... that no, as much as you’re asked... you will never feel ‘better’. Stuck between a rock and a hard place in my mind at the moment ✨
DID YOU KNOW?! Coconut 🥥🥥🥥 is a primary ingredient in a tonne of beauty products, from straight up coconut oil to derivatives that are hidden under ‘coco-*insert scientific term here*’ Also, it smells bloody delicious so I was often buying coconut fragranced things from shampoo to body sprays. Sadly, coconut was the final piece of my intolerance puzzle, no doubt caused by over-indulging on coconut lattes etc etc after (attempting to) cut out dairy. AND it was also the source of my weird eye allergy that flared sporadically - beauty products! Do any of you have coconut intolerance? How do you cope? I find mine is (thankfully) mild and my skin can cope with little here and there.
We don’t do match on purpose, it just happens often 😂 #twinning . . Does this happen with you & your kiddo?!
Let’s talk DAIRY... I realised dairy was one of my issues a few years back and cut down on lactose... problem was I’m also intolerant to casein, so no lactose only solved half the problem. Dairy is another sneaky intolerance that lurks everywhere, luckily it’s a known allergen and most restaurants are prepared to let you know what meals it’s in. It’s also in BOLD on food packaging which makes life easier. Things dairy is in that may surprise you: Wine 🍷 (sometimes contains casein, check the packaging) Pre-made / whipped guacamole 🥑 (I know, holy guacamole literally) Medications 💊 (Yep, birth control, pain killers, antibiotics... check the ingredients for lactose)
DID YOU KNOW...? If you have a dairy intolerance and continue to eat it, you’ll likely end up with a sunflower or soya intolerance? ~ For me that became a sunflower intolerance, and boy it was (the sneaky ingredient that was in) absolutely everything and was stopping me from being able to connect the dots of what was making me feel 💩 (literally). Sunflower is massively overused in products, check the ingredients and you’ll likely find sunflower lurking. It’s prolific in crisps, cereals and McDonalds... all my favourite things 😢
Voilà my first dinner in South Africa! Prepared by the restaurant manager who’s ex-girlfriend has food allergies. This was a lucky chance for my first try eating out in Stellenbosch. Otherwise, it has been a little hit and miss when finding a safe place to eat. In Stellenbosch I was able to find something to eat, the misses happened in Port Elizabeth. This may be because Stellenbosch is use to more tourists where as we ate at more local places in PE. • My impression is that most restaurants are worried about cross contact. That’s why the manager cooked at the one place, and other restaurants didn’t feel safe cooking for me. I won’t lie I was a little disappointed I couldn’t eat at the two places that said no (their menus sounded really yummy) but I appreciate their openness about not being able to accommodate my allergies. I’d rather be a little hungry than take chances. Plus I always make sure to have some snacks when travelling because you never can truly know if it’s safe until you get there and talk to the waiter. • Now we are off to Cape Town and we shall see how food allergies will be handled! • P.S. So far it seems the main cooking oil here is sunflower. . . . #sunflowerallergy #allergytravels #foodallergy #stellenboschfoodies #localislekker #travelsouthafrica #southafricafood #fishoftheday #freshfish #allergyeats #catchoftheday #travellingwithfoodallergies #stellenbosch
Sunflower free! While we do love the sunflower we don’t use sunflower in our mixes or in any other products in our boxes ❤️🧁📦 We have a very good friend with a daughter with a #sunflowerallergy and wanted to make sure she could safely eat our mixes... and she can!

Once upon a time, I graduated from university and promptly hopped a flight to Japan. Yes, I was terrified. (But I think I was more terrified at the prospect of finding a career with nothing but an English degree and some odd jobs on my resume.) ✈🇯🇵 My 1-year teaching stint in Japan evolved into 4 years, 2 cities, 1 new language, a love that (literally) spoke no languages, friends from all over the world, hundreds of new foods, and travel -- lots and lots of travel. 🏮🏯 It was in Japan where I fell in love with karaoke, kimonos and Totoro, of course! Japan became a huge part of my identity -- so much so that it took me a full year to 'get over' it when I eventually moved back. It honestly felt like a broken heart. 💔 Not surprisingly, I want my husband and child to experience this amazing country I used to call home, this magical place that helped form the person I am today. 😻 So when my son was diagnosed with soy and sesame allergies (among others), I had to come to terms with the fact that he might never get to visit this wonderful part of the world, to see who his mama becomes when she steps foot on Japanese soil (because this sort of immersive travel CHANGES you). We've since removed soy from his list of allergens and I've been lucky to meet people like @allergy_girl_eats or @allergictraveller, young adults who don't let their allergies get in the way of their travels. I also learned 2 important lessons from the moderators at the panel discussion this week: @everydayallergenfree kind of blew my mind when she explained that allergy kids can't miss a food they've never eaten... I mean, how can you miss something if you've never tried it? And @allergy_girl_eats got me re-thinking how I define travel. As a foodie, travel always meant eating my way through a country. But the truth is, there are so many other amazing things to experience! So why COULDN'T I bring my son to Japan one day? We'll just get an Airbnb, eat our meals at home and bring safe snacks with us. Not to mention more and more restaurants are becoming allergy-friendly anyway! (...so my sources tell me.) What about you? Is there a country you feel is off limits due to allergies?
Oh, hi. 👋 Nice to 'meet' you. 😉 I only joined Instagram about a year ago, and as someone who used to be a Facebook only type of gal, I have to say I'm loving how this platform brings our wonderful community together.💙 It's amazing how I feel like I kinda-sorta know allergy peeps from all over the 🌎. Recently, I saw one of my favourite allergy mamas take the time to introduce herself... and I thought I'd do the same. 😊 So here goes! . My name is Kathleen. I’m a Toronto-based writer, a foodie, and mom to a toddler with multiple food allergies. . Before I had even met my baby boy, I dreamed of the day we’d enjoy “Foodie Fundays” together. I imagined we’d spend Sunday afternoons—just the two of us—trying out new and delicious restaurants in the city. . That dream died (bit.ly/death-of-a-dream) the day he was diagnosed with allergies to peanuts, tree nuts (since outgrown), & egg... followed by sesame, soy (since outgrown), & sunflower months later. Suddenly, something as simple as running into a cafe in between errands became a scary, stress-filled event. Was I putting my child in danger by simply walking into a coffee shop? . And restaurants? They seemed completely out of the question. Needless to say, I was devastated. . It took a few months before it hit me: It didn’t have to be this bad. 1 in 13 children have a food allergy, so I knew there’d be a community of like-minded parents wanting the same (safe) experiences for themselves and their children. . I decided then and there what my mission would be: to help allergy families & foodies find allergy-friendly eating spots in Toronto and beyond. Since then, my mission has evolved to include #AllergyMom Meetups + the launch of a community fundraiser & awareness initiative called the Top 10 Challenge. . Fun fact: I have a picky Irish husband. 😍🍀 What's one cool or quirky fact about you or your family? . Safe appétit! Happy #CanadianThanksgiving! This might seem like a weird "thanksgiving" photo, but as an allergy parent, one of the many things I'm grateful for today is something seemingly quite small... something I once took for granted. 😌 If you asked me 1 year ago if I'd ever have these products in my home -- let alone feed them to my son -- I would have answered with great big a HELL NO. 😱 And after our #sunflowerallergy allergy let-down (i.e., failed #oralchallenge 👉 bit.ly/food-allergies-perspective), I did NOT expect to be crossing ALL tree nuts off our list of allergies a few short months later. 😮 But life is weird. And so I'll happily accept the small wins (which, in reality, feel rather large these days). 👍 What about you? When it comes to your allergy journey, what are you most grateful for? (Doesn't matter if you aren't celebrating Thanksgiving until next month!! 😉 🇺🇸🍁 Let's share our wins! 💙) . . . #thanksgivingweekend #thanksgiving2018 #givingthanks #feelinggrateful #gratitude #smallwins #allergymama #allergyparent #allergyfamily #lifewithfoodallergies #hellotreenuts #nutella #moofree #itsallaboutperspective #foodallergiesbite #allergybites
I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like a really big deal to remove one of the allergy charms from my son's allergy wristband. Can we call it an allergy milestone? (I really hope I'm not jinxing us since he still hasn't tried ALL tree nuts - 5 down, 5 to go! 💪). But this is what's so cool about the @allerbling bracelet. You have the ability to add or remove charms throughout your child's allergy journey. If you are hopeful your child will outgrow an allergy or two, it's a truly flexible option. 👍 His other bracelet has his allergens engraved, so tree nuts remain... . . . #allergymom #allergymama #allergymilestone #solongtreenuts #peanutallergy #eggallergy #sesameallergy #sunflowerallergy #allergywristband #allergybracelet #allergyawareness #allerbling #allergyalert #lifewithfoodallergies #multiplefoodallergies #foodallergies #foodallergiesbite #allergybites
