Maybe ya can’t tell but I was 100% ashamed of who I was. I barely got up on that stage. It wasn’t like people didn’t accept me but more so that I absolutely did not accept myself. As a young girl in an industry like this, (no matter how small it is or how little of an impact you think it has), you’re under pressure to fulfill just about everyone’s expectations. You need to change who you are, you need to be open to just about every opinion and criticism and you need to sacrifice your being under the assumption that you’re grateful for just being heard at all... which you are and that’s why you go along with it. Not for one second would you think about the statements that people would make in your name and that they could have an impact on you at all but they do.
